Let the newbies decide for themselves. D80 also has its cons. I believe the ISO control for Nikon system is still not as powerful as Canon's. However, Nikon flash power sia.

It is also dependent on what kind of images the person likes. Some like images crisp, hard and vibrant. Some like it soft with mood. Really depends on what kind of images the end user likes.

Yah lah, I still use canon because I like slightly soft image. Nikon tend to have sharp sharp image. The ISO control, actually 1600 is fine when I tried it, maybe its still quite bright at comex.

& the Canon 400D LCD almost touches the base with no gap, might hit on something & crack.
looks like canon fully use up all the space on 400D body to put in the 2.5inch LCD

I personally like the two types of images and is dependent on what I am taking. If subject requires vibrancy, I go for Nikon. If subject requires mood building, Canon:thumbsup:

Definitely....
Digital Camera prices are depreciating by the month....

And yea....nothing special for exhibition...just the usual price...and maybe a little more freebies.

But for me personally, i would get it from CP, so I can get all the accessories, such as filters, lenspen, extra batteries, etc all at one go, at discounted prices too...

I got my first DSLR at Comex yesterday  400D ... my new baby!! hehehe :p
Tried the 30D but found it too heavy for me. Anyway, I'm not a "hardware fanatic" so I'm happy with what I got. [all these talk making a newbie like me largy blurrr heeeee]

Hopefully I will put my baby to good use ... heeee ... can't wait to fetch it from the supplier's place

Congrats...get some good lens to pair up with it. :) Its a nice little camera...I find it a little too small for my hands though. 30D fits better and more sturdy built too.

You guys are funny. I like the smallest of my 350D. I bet most of you don't travel with your gears whilst trekking eh. I can handle the 350D + 70-200 F2.8L, why can't you guys? BTW i'm 1.84m tall and trust me, my hands are as large as yours.

Proper shooting technique requires you to hold on to the lens barrel or by placing the other hand under the cam to support it for a more stabilize shot. The hand that is used to grip on to the camera is used just for triggering the shutter and adjusting parameters thats all. Let me say this.. you are not using a P&S camera. Use a DSLR as how it is meant to be used. It has been 2 years since the grunt has been going on and on. Enough of the small grip comment.

Sigh... Also, spot metering is an over-rated and practically useless feature, just like mirror-lock-up on the Canon DSLRs.

IMO, Mirror Lockup is useful especially in Landscape shots. I use it all the time with a remote cable release, makes alot of difference for me. Spot metering? No experience with it yet. I'm a 350D user

I agree, the spot meter is extremely important. Not sure how the others use it, but for me a quick spot reading of a 18% gray card to double check my exposure will ensure that what I'm shooting will come out the way I want. When I don't have a spot meter, I have to go up very close and fill my central "partial" metering area with the card to take the same reading. This is very annoying. (I'm currently using a film camera.)

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but today's spot meters are not as small as the spot meters from the old film cameras such as T-90, OM-3 and OM-4.

Anyway, with evaluative metering and matrix metering well tested and accepted, I think the manufacturers are keen to drop metering options like spot meters. Kudos to Nikon for including spot metering in their D50! I'm glad that Canon DID listen to the public about improvements for the 350D to come up with the 400D but I guess they didn't hear the request for spot metering.

Actually, there were previously threads in DPReview on what people hoped to see in the upgrade to the 350D. The overwhelming NUMBER 1 choice was AF accuracy. I guess Canon listened. :bsmilie: But I still think there's room for improved AF accuracy. Why can't Canon simply put the centre cross hair of the AF sensor in the 1D series on their lower end cameras???

And I thought spot metering, auto-ISO, smaller ISO steps etc were easy and low-cost to implement while an improved AF sensor would probably cost more. So it never struck me that Canon would be so cheap as not to introduce them in 400D. Sigh....

i guess they have to strike a balance. if they did put all of those in the 400D, may as well shut shop for 30D production liow.
