Checked last nite. He's doesnt have stocks at the moment... But sure not cheap for the duo memory stick...

Sony 1gb Memory Stick Duo at $350 accordingly to the dealer. 2gb no news yet.

If interested, let me know. I will pm you his contact details. The rest is up to you to decide if it's a best purchase.

I was thinking of buying a small and handy 4 MegaPixel Sony DS-40 with the Vario Tessar lens. Lens is super.
Decided not to buy when I thought of cost of 1GB sony memory stick.

Your concerns are valid. Sony beta wake up and stop ripping us off as consumers.

Initially I had the same concerns, Sony Singapore is just hypering their Memory Sticks by a few 100% as compared to Scandisk or other storage devices.

In the end it's the reasonable price of a budget DSC W5 with great battery life, good battery life span plus a better lens which won me over. And of course the additional 2 years extended warranty. Total 3 years. ... where to find in the market?

Only thing is some of us paid additional $180 (n sold off the free 256mb to offset) for a 1gb Sony MS Pro which is half the price of our cams...

So the cheapest I could find for MS are:
Sony Memory Stick Pro
512mb: $100
1gb: $180

Duo Series
1gb: $350
2gb: No news yet.

1 yr and 7 mths earlier i became a proud owner of Sony DSC P-10 and a 256mb Memory stick pro. That 'stick' cost me almost $200, damn !

And CF card nowadays 1Gb is selling at abt $130 or so, with Lexar Pro 80x WA retailing at $168 i think, CS forumers are getting better deal than this.

With Memory stick 1 Gb, which cost $350, I'll embrace canon and olympus where CF card cost less and perform better/faster.

Sony doesn't give me gd battery endurance...P10's lithium rechargeables only last me 90 shots...and not to mention the price of that battery!

Opps...i didn't read it's $180 when i posted this up, thus appending to this post. But $180 is still the highest cost memory storage media for camera.

my 2 cents

yesterday i went down eastgear intending to get a 1 GB sony memory stick pro. The price was $235 i think. Almost wanted to get it when the sale man said that memory stick is going to be phase out.

I went down to MS Color to buy MS instead.
