How much does it cost now?
What about the Hitachi one?
What's the difference?

Hitachi bought over IBM's harddisk business, and the "IBM" microdrive is now manufactured and sold as Hitachi.

Bought my IBM 1GB microdrive less than a year ago for S$309 including GST.

and extremly sensitive for dropping.

I'm interested in getting one.
Hope to see more comments from owners/users.

Well I've taken good care of my 2 x 1gb microdrives and never had any problems.
However recently I bought a 1gb Sandisk Ultra 2 CF card and started using that. Amazing the difference in performance between that card and the microdrive... The CF card is much faster, both in write times and reviewing images on the camera. So much so that I bought another CF card! The CF card is twice as expensive as the microdrive, but worth it for me.

However, if price is an issue and you will look after them, microdrives can be a good option.

Well, my Canon G1 fell onto the road (with a few bounce) together with the 1GB microdirve in it while I was cycling 2 yrs ago. The microdrive is still in excellent condition till last month when I sold it away to make way for 2X512MB compact flash (so that I can use the media both in my camera and PDA), while my G1 broke down one year ago. No problem with any sensitivity issues whatsoever in my 2 yrs of usage of the MD.

just don't pinch the wide flat areas with you fingers, instead hold the edges and you'll be fine. (of course, this excludes dropping and soaking.....) :D
