1Ds3 - wow!

I believe in karma, and the material society's golden rule (He with the gold makes the rules).

I like to think that anybody who has bought something from me would do it again without hesitation. Repeat business is the best kind of business.

As far as apertures go, f1.2 is my largest, and the 3 others are all f2.8's, (at least until I get the 800mm f5.6 hopefully sometime this year).

Like Obiwan would say, May the (buying) Force be with you.

And btw, the cf/1.0, cf/1.4, etc... aren't talking about apertures. It's basically a scale of comparing used equipment sellers against the golden (since you believe in the golden rule) benchmark, you. So a seller with a rating of cf/1.4, is twice as likely to use his 1Ds Mark 3 more than you, and probably dare I say, take it outdoors under those trying weather conditions of Singapore.

Most mere mortals out there would be in the excess of cf/2.8 (using it frequently outdoors), with pros being about cf/5.6 (using the camera at times for self-defense).

Yes, it's a Saturday morning, and it seems we're having some free time on our hands.

Oops, my bad. Again, forgive my ignorance, but how does one get these cf ratings? Is it like FleaBay's mutual feedback feedback system (where I do have a 100% rating since 1999) in which both parties to the transaction leave feedback (or not at their option) after the dust settles?

Since I retired in 2001, every morning is like a Saturday morning for me, kinda like the movie Ground Hog day.

Don't worry about it. It's just mere jest written in the spirit of a lazy Saturday morning.

One of my favorite movies. Make the best out of every day then.

Where did everybody go?

I have finished chapter 6 (of 11), page 114 (of 212), so I feel ready to be quizzed about the operation of the camera, its handling characteristics compared to its predecessor, etc.

While I appreciate your concerns and comments about how much I paid, how I use (or not), when I will re-sell and for how much, I would much rather address technical questions about the camera so that I am forced to learn about it faster or face public humiliation!

OMG ..you retired from the industry and now enjoying the fruits of your labor.

I would come out of retirement in a heartbeat if somebody would pay me what I think I am worth.

But then again, if they did pay me that much, I would be back in retirement pdq because any company that is foolish enough to pay me that much would be out of business pdq!

Better for all that I stay retired.

Speaking of labour, my wife will be undergoing this pretty soon, so please ask me questions about the camera so I will be in a position to operate it properly this time (nightmares with my 1Ds2 and the delivery of our first child).

Note to newbies: This is the type of person you buy used equipment from. Perfectly cared for, with full consideration for the next owner

Thanks for the props. As soon as the Mark IV becomes available in 3 year' time, I will ditch my lovingly cared for 1Ds3 so fast it would get whiplash if it had a neck.

Then I will buy the 1Ds Mk 3 from you in three years time, at about 1/2 the current price.

I presume you would like all the original plastic bags (neatly folded of course) for that price?

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Watch this space .....

ROTFLMAO on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Luckily, in my version, I have a fast forward button. Can you say "Beam me up, Scotty"?

Carpe diem indeed!

Yep, and so did Adam Sandler's character in "Click". Just go easy on the fast forward button :bsmilie:

Why don't you lobby the mods to implement such a system? Would definitely bring some semblance of order/recognition of past deeds/misdeeds to an otherwise random process.

Hold on to that thought. I'll do that when I'm retired.

Here's to early retirement.

Got to read the supplement entitled "Tailoring the 1D3/1Ds3 for different situations" supplement from the CPS website now, on hard copy, so off for a smoke break.

Later ....

Where do you think I got my idea from?

I think you better get on to finishing reading that manual then. The FF button works in devious ways as per the movie... your son would've grown up, you've already purchased a 1Ds Mark VII, posted on the same forum telling us about your purchase, and still at page 77 of the 1Ds Mark III manual. Now that's something we wouldn't want, don't you agree? ;)

Just finished the CPS supplement, which explains in plain American, the many real life situations that the typical American 1D3/1Ds3 user would encounter, and the settings that would be most useful. Luckily, I'm almost American, so I understand their liberal use of gridiron terms.

It also makes the transition for previous MkII users easier by pointing out the 'before(on MkII's)' and 'after(on MkIII's)' settings, again in easily understood terms. It fleshes out what is a fairly dry read in chapters 6 (pages 81 to 89) and 10 (pages 155 to 184) of the official hardware manual.

Nothing wrong with that, surely? I hope he has finished N.S. without too many bad haircuts.

you've already purchased a 1Ds Mark VII,

By then, it should be small enough to be implanted in one's cornea, with 1Tb resolution and WiFi built in.

By then, I should be able to get new models for free because I would have spent so much on Canon gear that I would qualify for the equivalent of FFP's. Ie I would be the equivalent of SQ's Life Solitaire in Canon's to be introduced CFP (Canon Frequent Purchaser) plan.

posted on the same forum telling us about your purchase, and

By then, I would not have to post anything; I would simply allow certain people to download my thoughts which they can then have transmitted directly to their neural networks at their option,

still at page 77 of the 1Ds Mark III manual.

I was already up to page 116 as per post 44 above, and now I have finished the entire tome.

How's that for speed reading?

I am ready for the stork's early arrival from now on.

Now that's something we wouldn't want, don't you agree? ;)

I would not wish that on my worst enemy.

Beauty... now go snap some pictures and let's see the images!

Beauty... now go snap some pictures and let's see the images!

I hooked up the new gal with a 580EX II/CP-E4 battery pack and shot a bunch of full speed (5fps) shots until the buffer filled up with 12 RAW images. Almost blinded my daughter. Chased her down once the buffer cleared, and then blinded her again. I didn't know she could run so fast while blinded. You don't want to know the rest.

So with 224 exposures recorded, and loaded into DPP 3.2 for pixel peeping at 200%, the conclusion is pretty obvious - I shouldn't become a pro photographer.

The composition, framing, etc...was crap, but what I did capture looks fantastic at 200% view in a way that my 1Ds2 never did. The new sensor has tremendous DR and the 14 bit DIGIC III A/D processor must be doing a damn fine job converting the analog data from the sensor because even crappy snapshots have a quality of colour that I have not seen since I used to print Ektachrome 25 ASA slides on Cibachrome in the bad old days.

My wife delivered our son last night 12 days ahead of schedule.

Over the course of a relatively short (less than 1 hour in the DR) and uneventful delivery (3 pushes after the epidural and sonny was out), and an amazingly short stay at Raffles Hospital (less than 19 hours), I made over 700 exposures using the combo above.

The images, 18gb worth of RAW files, are nothing short of breathtaking in their IQ, sharpness, colour fidelity, and even goriness in many cases. These images are definitely not for the faint of heart.

This camera is worth every last penny I spent on it. Hope fully, it was not my last penny that I spent on it.

Congrats!! Dun think we'll get to see the images but we'll take your word for it.
