... the popular notion here on clubsnap: "equipment does not make the pictures, the person behind the camera does"
On this popular notion.... I'd beg to differ.

"Equipment maketh the Man, the Man maketh the picture."

In short, both complements each other.
But if ya got the moola, go ahead and get the best.
If not, just get the 2nd best, polish up ur skill for the best and wait for a window of opportunity. :)

If you were so sure that Google was going to quadrupule its IPO price, you could have borrowed money from a variety of less than desirable sources (like from banks offering ready credit schemes at 24% annual interest), invested it with any broker after the IPO (no need for lobangs), and paid back the entire loan amount plus interest by selling a third of the position. Then you'd still 2/3 of the original poistion for zero cost. You'd have money for nothing and chicks for free, as Bob Geldorf says.

My, has ur excessive wealth clouded ur sense of humor?

Funny thing about these sure things, is that everyone has 20/20 hindsight. I'd suggest you keep your day job whatever that is. The reason I could retire at the age of 40 is that I actually knew how to make money investing my money without shooting my mouth off.

I see. If u know how to use ur money, why would u be asking us mere mortals how to spend $18k on a camera? Surely you can afford it, and also be smart enough to do ur own research on the different camera makes. Also, may I remind u that this is the Canon forum, not exactly the right place to drop subtle hints on ur opulent lifestyle. U're more than welcome to that in the Kopitiam forum however, where we commoners with more fruitful lives can be bowed over by your display of decadent wealth.

And yes, I will be sure to share my largesse by selling my barely used equipment at huge discounts on this website so you can content yourself with the crumbs from my table. Not!

I wouldn't bother with ur crumbs anyway, thank you. My money's in my collection of Leica gear, where they are so well made, I wouldn't have a problem dropping money on them. And if I need to expand my Canon gear, I would rather buy it new or from any of the other honest to goodness Clubsnappers here. Surely we working class pple are not worthy of dealing with you, with ur fragile sensibilities. I might say things you don't like and offend you :)

Compared to what my BMW's cost to own in Singapore, the loss on camera equipment barely registers on the pain threshold.

oh then u're have already answered ur own question haven't you? Then surely there's no need to start 2 separately post here on whether you should spend ur money on a 1ds mk2.

You may be right! So what have you gained by pointing out my blatantly obvious error, besides a sense of superiority and bragging rights?

I think Spectrum was just trying to be helpful and meant no ill harm. See, we're not capable of dealing with your fragile sensibilities.

I just say "Buy It". Because you had already made up your mind. Just need confirmation right. 1DS mkII is a great camera. With it's resolution I had seen prints enlarge up to two by three meters with plenty details when view up close but not likely you need it or want to do so. Hey in singapore the road are too short to race but there are people who own ferraris here. :bsmilie: Back to the camera, in term of performent, spec. and sex appear this baby have it. The other cheaper option that you ever need is the 1D mkII. Again why get a Mitsubishi Evo when you can afford a Ferraris. Just my two cent.

I think this thread should be closed. It's getting out of our common interests.

its never in anyone's interest, just bragging rights and snob behaviour at its best!

Cheers mate!;)

Canonfan, could you clear some space in your PM box or provide an email address? I was trying to send you a PM but you're full up at the moment.

 :thumbsup: to the moderator for taking up the cause of us proletariat. it took suprisingly long for someone to point out how obnoxious, condescending and insulting our burgeoise CSer's remarks were. why bother asking us working class folks only to question our intelligence, grammar and blue-collar sensibilities immediately after. I propose to the moderator to close this unproductive thread.

uuhh...sorry...off-topic a little but i believe it's Dire Straits and not Bob Geldorf. ;)

Spectrum beat you to it I'm afraid. No prize for being second (or first for that matter).
