Now CP have drop the price of 5D $5700 & below...forget about the 1Ds...old technology and noisy pic...CCD right? Even Sony have start to use CMOS sensor (23mm x 15mm) at their 10 mega pixel cam at $1600 only...

1ds uses cmos sensors, only 1D uses CCD

Don't dispute re: handling ... since I used a lot of 1-series cameras in film. Great if you are a hobby shooter and just want the user experience. I also had the 1Ds briefly.

But where output i.e. the final picture is more important, later technology is better hence 5D.

The EOS 1Ds doesn't have high ISO options... and even at 1000ASA it's noisy. Shouldn't use it beyond 400ASA. The EOS 5D is reputedly very good, even up to 1600ASA.

i heard 3200asa is also usable for certain conditions.

use 5D because usable high ISO and Custom setting, it just like have 2 M mode in the cam, but for AF...... forget it, i lost few event in low light during my assignment, terrible.

as for last day assignment i shoot group photo and use ISO 1600, print in 5R, no one knows it was ISO1600, very clean.............

ISO 3200 is usable and OK if........................you take with correct exposure.

Was it because of this that prompted you to sell your 5D and go for 1Ds mk I?

Shot in very low light....really like the 1-series focussing better. Shot on my brand new 1dMKII Canon just replaced. I decided to keep it since no one appreciated (ridiculous prices) a brand new set with warranty.

1/50s, f/1.4....ISO 1000.

Don't think that's true....XL1 should still be using 5D...

I have only heard people 1DsMK1 --> 5D....not the other way round.

im using 5D and 1dmk2 on pair, the AF is one of the reason, there still other reason for me to use back 1 series, but mean time i try to enjoying 1st, not in the hury to change.

Nice to hear that!;)

You were selling quite a bit of stuff, thot you were streamlining all your lenses to serve full frame.

Got a lot to learn from you!

Agree agree...

And for those worried about resale, the 1 series seems to be holding its value in the 2nd hand market too. :)

Which one will you choose given that both are Full Frame bodies? Forget about 1Ds mk II as it's just too expensive for the majority.

The price of 2nd hand 1Ds mk I is closed to the price of 5D.

Primary differences between the 2 bodies are :

5D compared to 1Ds mk I :

1) Digic II
2) 2.5" LCD
3) 12.8MP
4) Optional battery grip
5) E-TTL II
6) 3 fps for up to 60 consecutive JPEG or 17 RAW frames in a burst

1Ds mk I compared to 5D :

1) 45 focusing points
2) 100% viewfinder coverage
3) weather-sealed body

5D for me,...in fact, I already turned down a 1Ds for the brand new 5D.. Another thing,... you should also mention that the 5D has the advantage over the 1Ds in iso range.. 50-3200, more control over user shooting styles, better battery performance, lower costing batteries, more quiet shutter, lighter weight, much smaller size without the grip, with a brand new Canon waranty....and is new technology. The 1Ds has already been outclassed, and can't be sold for what the new price of a 5D is,...and it was not that long ago that it was going for 8,000.00 ....so, unfortunately,...that really stinks for 1Ds owners who would want to "up grade" to a 5D.

Oh well..

I'm a 1ds owner and yup.. it stinks.... Just got my 5d 2 wks ago, dread to see the day it'll be sold for 1000$usd. (prob in a year or 2)

Hence: must shoot more :)

I'm keeping my 1Ds.

Mainly because I can't fetch the 1Ds at a good price. But more importantly, the 45 pt focus. If u're using super fast lenses like f1.2 and f1.4, u will appreciate the 45 point focus. This is because u will miss the focus mark if u were to focus-and-then-shift. Will will not feel it if u're only using those f2.8 lenses. Try a shooting protrait with a 85 f1.2 wide open or a 35mm f1.4 or 135mm f2 and u see what I mean.

The high ISO capability of the 5D is a plus but the ISO noise at 800 isn't that bad afterall. With noise reduction software like noise ninja, the problem can easily be fixed.

But what I really hated about the 1Ds is the weight and bulk.

How about 1DS MKIII? :bsmilie:
