1dmk2n vs 5D... what do you think?

The mkII's 1.3X is really growing on me and since I've acquired it it's always been a joy to use. It hasn't failed me so far, through a large spectrum of conditions, except when it was of my own error. The MkII works exceptionally well when you are familiar with it and know what you're doing, else things like "button combos" and even scrolling through menus will be a massive chore, let alone the actual shooting.

I've come to appreciate how the 1-series operates in all situations and I though a 5d suits my photography needs better, I would rather hang on to my MKii for now. FF matters much less to me now so perhaps my film body would be going soon too. Or perhaps I'm just used to using the 1.3X so much that FF feels odd.

I think features and function-wise as to what a 5D can do compared to a 1-series cam, the 5D is over-priced as of now, IMHO.

Using both the 5D and 1D 2 for outdoor assignments. The 5D is spot on whereas the 1D2 needs to do a +1/3EV to get the same midtone.

In terms of ISO noise, the 5D is really clean.... I shoot primarily ISO 1600 - 3200 indoors, and they're bearly visible even at A3 size.

However, 1D2 has its practicality and merits too. If you need to shoot volume, 5D is out of the question unless you have tons of CF cards. A 2gig card can hold at most 120 shots at RAW (I only shoot RAW), and 1D2 takes me to 200+ shots. Not all clients need that kind of size and 1D2 does its job well.

In terms of image quality, I find the 1D2 images are more contrasty and require less work. In terms of white balance, both are excellent but 5D tends to be a bit cooler, I'm comparing when both cams are at their default /standard setting.

thanks for the input.. :)

Using custom function, u can configure focus point selection by directly controlling the multi-controller instead of pressing a button.

Using the same CF, u also select centre point AF directly by pressing the multi controller directly in the centre.

the 20D is a borrowed set, so cool, the multi controller button is actually the assist button plus other functions!:D

i also have this thought until someone told me:

2 years back, the functions of 5D can only be found in the 1Ds, many people paid $13000 for it, for $6000 or $5000 is cheap, in a nutshell, today.

yes i need a 1DmkIIn and a 5D this year whenever funds are freed up, also need a 24 TS/E, 24 f1.4, and 135 f2 .

1Dmkiin can be delayed if i have more products than events, the 5D can be delayed if i have more events than products.

basicly i want more jobs and do not want to spend buying equipment if possible.:bsmilie:

also want to get my L, M6 TTL with 35mm....

This 30% light loss is mentioned in Dpreview, its the sensor's problem, not the lens.

i think the vignetting of lenses when they are shot wide open is pretty open, and has been happening even before digital. An example is when i use my 28mm f2 on my M6 rangefinder, i have to give it an extra half stop of exposure for a more pleasing image due to the vignetting - this is optional i think, just that i prefer my pics to be a little brighter, even if in reality, the place is really dark...

is dpreview saying that this is not a problem with the 1ds mk2?
