I had the 17/2.8 for about a month and also the 20/1.7 for a couple of days. The 20/1.7 is much faster. If budget is not a problem I would recommend the 17/1.8 the AF is blazing.

just sold off 17/1.8.. so still 20/1.7
IMHO: to summarise only two points
1) If u need fast AF (as in instant).. it is definitely 17/1.8 (young kids)
2) if image quality is what u are after.. 20/1.7 is much better
now.. 17/1.8's image is actually quite good if u have never owned 20/1.7.
AND 20/1.7's AF is actually not that slow.. it works fine for my food photos, holidays (as in family members posting in scenery and landmarks)
FOV differences between these two is minimum.. a few steps front or a few steps back...
so 20/1.7 + 45/1.8 covers all my needs....

This is a very informative thread as i too have similar thoughts about getting the 25mm. now i have the pana 14mm, oly 17mm F2.8 (which i will sell off eventually) and the 20mm which i just bought. will play around more with the 20mm although i have an opportunity to buy the 25mm from amazon (USD529 ~ SGD680) which a friend will help me bring back but i have to decide fast otherwise i will miss the opportunity. friend says buy 1st lah worry later 
I use to own Pana 20mm until i sold it off to offset the cost from the Oly 17mm. SO far the AF is still the fastest when it comes to shots that you need to immediately retrieve it out from your bag to on, point and fire off. Speed does make a different at times like this. But sharpness wise is still the 20mm which usually people cant tell much different unless you are either doing large print or view on large monitor or LED TV.

I would get the 17mm as a one lens solution to the omd. Otherwise, for the same price, the 14+20 is a good combo as well
