Some people like zooms for its convenience in street photography. I've also seen people doing street photography with one or two primes because of their compactness and light weight.

So the decision is up to you. Only you know what you need.

hello, zoom lens helps you better when you wanna grab those shots which r at the moment, you carry one lens instead of a few lens.17-35 is very good for enviroment portraits, those which shows the people with the surrounding. i use 24-50 or 24-85 for my street shots usually.

if you have at least 50mm focal length, you don't need to go so near to your subjects. IMHO, i think 17-35 is good for enviroment portraits, scenery or pictures which you want to have a strong foreground and play with the depth when you focus near the subject.

I use the 17-35mm. The wide end has BD that is quite noticeable especially if the exposure is not too good... that was the first time I used the lens.... I tried using it again but have developed my negatives yet.... so dun know the results yet... I think the 15-30mm is better in terms of optical quality.

errm, i have a 50mm..so it would be better if i take that 17-35mm, yah?

Hmm......... actually how much difference does 5mm at the tele end mean to u? But given the difference in optical quality, I would still choose the 15-30mm.... my own lenses are 17-35mm and 24-135mm and 100-400mm, so I'm covered from ultrawide to supertele. But I guess for u the "logical" step would be the 17-35mm........

As vader has mentioned, actually the 24-85mm lens is really a very good focal range to have for street photography.... u get real wideangle and pretty good telephoto for potraiture shots....... and it's pretty inexpensive for its optical quality!

donno about both len's performances myself (the widest I use is 24-135), but won't 24mm prime give a better performance as compared to a zoom esp for a zoom at both max ends which may give distortion? And I think the f 2.8 is still quite attractive as compared to the f 4 of the 17-35 lens. So maybe you could still keep the 24 mm but get the 17-35 if you want?

The zoom gives a lot of flexibilty especially for street photography.... u can take your time to changes lens for other kindsof photography like studio or architecture or landscape........ I suppose those things dun change much over a short span of time.......
