for me i still prefer my 50mm f1.4 to 24-70. perhaps i will do a test later at all apertures to see if the 24-70 is sharper.

So, do I buy a 14-24 to capture those lovely beaches and sunsets or should I get a 24-70mm for more useable zoom to capture family moments.
Thanks in advance
Matt
errr... Sigma 12-24? Din say use DX mode for 12-24, pls dun rush and make judgement
24-120 - walking lens... use DX mode for extra reach when travelling. So effectively, as my walking lens.. I get 24-180mm (24-120 on FX, 120-180 on DX mode). Get it?
at 24mm it is considered a wide angleis the 24 -70mm consider a wide angle lens? can it fit a D90? sorry for the nob question coz i am a newbie to dslr cam. is this len better than the 18 - 105mm kit len? how much do we expect to pay for a first hand len?

yes can fit a d90, no pro
def better than 18 - 105mm
abt 2.2k
I will go for 14-24, especially for family moments, it has got a different feel, a sense of closeness.

Lol if one person was just slightly nearer to the camera than another person, he/she blows up in size.
Unless you really want to learn ultra wide angle photography(14mm is one of the widest you can go currently, lets not talk abt the 8mm lens produced last time) i suggest you get the 24-70mm. Espcially during the vacation, if you realised you dinged your 1 week old 14-24mm, it really would spoil the holiday. So my vote goes to 24-70mm as its a great walk about lens with the d700. You can also use filters on the 24-70mm but the 14-24mm is not able to take any filter(unless its a special filter?)

A good read for those aspiring ultra wide junky, but it goes to show how hard is it to properly use the 14-24mm.
