$10000 budget looking for kits

Buy 5dm2, 16-35, 24-70, 70-200.

the 5d's getting old...
'Old' doesn't mean its 'lousy' what. :dunno:

sigh...now its all abt getting the latest and greatest - what happened to the good 'ol days when ppl used to talk more on employing proper techniques and how to improve their photos...

U wanna get a full-equipped proper setup especially for wildlife and birds...sorry man...the key word here is 'expensive' - meaning > $10k. I've seen bros here blow 20k or more on just a dedicated birding setup. A proper supertelephoto lens like a 500mm or 600mm which many consider the 'standard' lens for bird photography already is > 10k alone. A 400mm is fine, but you'll always hunger for more focal length.

Another question: are you willing to purchase 2nd hand stuff? You can save quite a bit if you buy 2nd hand gear rather than brand new.

Back to topic, I guess a decent setup for ur needs would be as follows:

7D (w/o batt grip)
17-55mm f2.8 IS
70-200mm f2.8L IS (Mk I if u can find as its cheaper)
400mm f5.6L
Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro
580EXII

Remainder of budget: decent tripod + ballhead + lens plates. Flash extender for flash.

Total should be almost 10k (give or take a few hundred) - assuming you buy all new at current shop pricing.

I need the dual digic 4

Why should the number of processors matter, as long as the camera is able to deliver the fps promised? :dunno:

:bsmilie::bsmilie: very true.

he wan dual core la.. :( sound more powerful

sounds more like talking about laptops now.. dual core intel... blah blah blah...

hmmm :dunno:

7D (no grip)
Tokina 11-16
24-105 f/4
35 f/2
Sigma 50 f/1.4
Flash

Umm yeah that's about it. Still pretty new to equipments though.

Hmm.. If for ME I guess itll be,

1) 7D Kit 1 (15-85mm) +70-200mm F2.8 II + 2X Extender + 580EX II
or
2) Get married and buy Pns camera (Still not enough to cover everything. Lol.) :bsmilie:

Still got left over $200+ to buy tripods or bags or CF cards.

I shoot sports so thts my set up. Would love to throw in EF 200mm F2 but that lens alone is already $11k ++.

You can squeeze it <10k if u purchase all of them from HK ;p

or get from cs b&s, but i rather go for either 2x40d or 2x50d (50d for the micro af adjustment), 2x580ex (not mkll), skip the 400mm, but go for 135mm f2, 10-22, 24-70, 70-200 f4 IS.

5D MKII body - buy locally S$3,200
17-40 - HK International warranty HK$5,700 (S$990)
24-70 - HK International warranty HK$9,800 (S$1,700)
70-200 2.8 IS - HK International warranty HK$16,830 (S$2,930)
580EXII - HK set International warranty HK$3,240 (S$560)
Return flight from HK with 1 night hotel stay S$600

That will still leave S$20 in your pocket...

i would get M9... oops, not enough to cover.

i would just get what i usually use 24L+50L and 24-105L. 24L buy the mark I 2nd hand can liao - the mk II is woohoo price.

i do have 85L and 135L but rarely use. i'm very concerned about weight when it comes to gear. 85L is 1kg on its own. i usually step out with 24L+50L or 24-105L+50L. lesser is better imo. i used to bring 16-35L overseas but now i just rely on PTGui to stitch panoramic scenes beyond 24mm. works great without an extra lens to lug around!

i have thought about 24-70L long and hard. but till today, its still a no go lens for me. hate the size, too intimidating on the streets to have a *canon* (man the size of the hood!) pointed at people.

Why need so many lenses, better prioritize which lens that suit your need.

I am suggesting:
7D + 17-55mm f/2.8 for general walkabout lens and shooting lowlights + a zoom lens for your bird shooting. I think should be within your 10k budget.

I'm thinking of tht kit with the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS II but since with such a weather proof body dunno whether 17-55 suitable or not.

Also, i dont think 200mm is not enough for the subjects i take so considering for a super telephoto one. I take lots of sports photography and the YOG has shown tht i nid more than 300mm.

And also i nid several low light/large aperture lenses to suit me as i take a lot of concert photography such as f/1.2 to f/2.8.

Also probably a macro lens..any recommendations for all my needs?

For flash i do not nid such a pwerful one, maybe the 450ex or the nissin di866

300mm f2.8 + extender second hand ..... plus 7D. second hand .. add a 18-55mm maybe can make the budget ... and that's about it ... will need a heavy duty tripod to go along with it when the budget allows ...

a classic case of cant have the cake and eat it ;p
