10 stop ND filters

if it's on the gasket, I wouldn't be too concern about it. Doesn't affect the picture.

Sorry guys OT a bit. Is it possible to remove the blue tint using ViewNX? If yes how? Thanks.

Warm up ur picture. I'm not using ViewNX but I use colour temperature to due to the blue or red cast from 10 stops ND filters

hi guy, do you guy cover the VF when doing LE, on a 10stop filter?
read from the net, that VF might leak some light in..

You should. But I don't.

Most cameras should be fine without covering the VF if you are shooting in M mode. Having an exposed viewfinder might affect your metering. You should cover the VF when doing metering if your eye is not at the VF. Once set and in M mode, it shouldn't be a problem. If you are using A S or P mode and your eye is not at the VF, it is best to cover the VF.

So what software u use to change the colour temperature? Anybody use ViewNX to remove it?

Lightroom 3.
Besides software, u can switch to Kelvin white balance in-camera to counter balance the blue cast by setting higher temperature.

It's kinda at the center. The scratches.

inspected a couple of pieces when i was in the area, all those i checked had some form of scratches across the middle

Did you check when you are buying at TK? I changed a piece because the gasket foam is a bit out of place.

It wasn't visible when i first looked at it. When the light reflects the filter, then it's visible.

hmmm.. shouldn't be too worry by it bah, unless you worry abt resale value.

Try take a shot it at F/16 to see if it's visible in your frame.

Please know that Hitech (formatt) and Lee filters are pretty much handmade in smaller runs. So some sample variation is to be expected.

And these small scratches will not show up in your pictures. So do not be so paranoid and just go out and shoot.

As to whether you cover VF, it is not just about metering.

Next time, just take a torchlight and cover your lens and do bulb exposure. Just shine the torchlight from all directions into the VF, see what sort of picture you get.

If you get a black picture, good for you, means you don't need to use VF cover.

If you get some horizontal bands streaking across your image, light is leaking in from your VF and you should cover it when shooting long exposures. Especially when you use things like ND110, during strong sunlight the chances of light leak is definitely much higher than shooting without any ND filter because the ambient lighting is already very low. Of course if you have a nearby lamppost then the same thing will be likely to occur.

I have heard about this issue too. But thus far, has not experienced any of such occurrence. Does this happen when you are shooting with strong lighting from the back of your camera and you are not in between the camera and the light source?

Just got the hitech pro 10 stop. It works quite good, just that the blue tint is quite terrible. Well, better than the magenta cast.

There's only one thing worrying me, there are like tiny dusts thingy which is quite hard to remove. How do you remove that?

Have you figured out how to properly correct the color cast?

I haven't quite figured out the proper mix to correct yet:

This is the correct color:
