    hong kong help needed

Check out the shops at Argyle street near Mongkok. Prices there are quite competitive. Avoid Tsimshatsui area, equivalent to Sim Lim Towers, Lucky Plaza style of racketeering. Favourite trick is the old switcheroo, will quote you an unbelievable low price, after taking your money offer you...

    On-line application for international passport

You can do it from your own home too. As for photo, just take a self portrait with a white background. Click on SIR website for specs on jpg resolutions and dimensions. You can even do a little photoshop to tone down glaring blemishes. Make sure you keep your facial skin tone as light as...

    Ubin trip

Pulau Ubin is not a photogenic place if you are there for the first time. Do visit the place again and again to have a feel of the island. This is better than going there and shooting anything that attracts ones attention. That include shots like boat wakes (to much churning), skies (nice if...

    Fotoguide closing?

OT for some. But my opinions nonetheless. My response is prompted by retailer observations on current digicams buyers at recent IT show. Many are queuing and their flashing credit cards for expensive equipments. Retailers are hurting but Clubsnap are full of members shouting and encouraging...

    Laminating photos

I bought a laminator designed for such job. It has functions like temperature control and pressure settings to minimize damage. You need good laminating films too, Japanese ones leaves no unsightly bubbles compared to China made stuff. There is a supplier near Selegie house who have...

    Fotoguide closing?

People, I think FotoGuide is going to close for good. In Singapore, even being long in the business with business model like providing the friendliest and most price competitive service (until AP comes along) cannot work. Have some sensitivity. Imagine yourself being retrenched and people on...

C2100 with Vivitar 285HV flash problem

Do be aware that older 285HV flash may have a high voltage output that can fry your camera circuit. The net has plenty of info on flash guns to watch out for. http://www.paramountcords.com/vp.htm

Advice on taking friend's ROM photos

Metz sold an bounce card accessory once, large and makes you look like an idiot too. I found marginal improvement in results. The surface was too smooth with little light scattering effect. On the other hand, the guy in the picture could be using material with better light scattering...

    Re: 4" X 6" Print

Your camera should have a built-in 3:2 aspect mode. Use it. Despite that, some labs will still crop a around the edges. Make sure you do not crop too tight when shooting or when cropping in PS.

Advice on taking friend's ROM photos

Get enough fresh batteries to power your flash. NIMH batteries are wonders, besides they are only slightly more expensive than alkalines. Omnibounce are natural disaster recipe. They cut down much needed flash power. Stick to direct flash if you are a newbie. Murphy's law is always at work...

    Es-e28 Slide Copying Adapter

My nephew got one of this. Bought from Alan Photo. Allow quick scans of negatives for web viewing. No way it can replace the regular slide scanners such as the Nikon Coolscan series. Here is a sample pict.

    CP4500 Users

No complaints. I am also using the old and slow SanDisk card. An important consideration for me is that the camera must be fun and easy to use. The Coolpix twists series fit the bill. Right now I am having a lot of fun attaching a 8x monoscope. Here is one taken in Labrador park, apparently...

    CP4500 Users

Batteries life? Really depends on how you shoot. I prefer my camera to be ready at all time, no turning on and off to save batteries. I used 2 batteries each shooting session so it is uncomfortable to know I am down to the last one. As many have stated, there is no such thing as a perfect...
