i went on SQ to japan recently too. didn't have to check in my tripod. but on the way back, narita airport wanted me to check in my tripod because it was 62cm when not extended. (60cm was the limit) i took out the centre column and ballhead, and made it past the checks.

how do you get the star in this shot? i've been trying to take similar shots..even stopped down to f22. but never managed to get such a nice starburst . :)

agreed. i like the lighting :) will definitely try to join one of the sessions next time when i can make it to learn more not sure if it's my monitor or my eyes..but..the bikini bottom seems to be revealing a little too much? ;)

i didn't experience flexing. my setup was a Nikon D300 + 70-200 f2.8 or 17-55mm f2.8. was quite stable. took some long exposures under strong winds by the bay..and the pictures turned out ok.

i got the 190cx3 and 486rc2 . brought it along for my japan trip recently. well..it didn't feel exactly that light..but hey..at least it didn't weigh a tonne. it fits in the tripod holder on my crumpler whickey and cox too. i was in the same dilemma..cldn't afford too much..but wanted a...

pretty nice shots :) i definitely didn't do as well on my first trip out. but i would personally prefer to have a longer exposure on 4 and 5..so that the water will look calmer..with nicer reflections

not sure if this helps..but i got a D300 (body only) last weekend at $2050.
