    Soft images on Nikon 50mm F1.4 AF-D

I also notice this same problem for my 50mm 1.4d and D90. At very close range there is severe back focusing. But i have just lived with it by focusing and pulling my camera back for very close range shots. I am also interested to know if there are other solutions?

    Advice for an enthu photographer

The thing about internet lessons is that it is hard to really know how good you are, photography skills and post processing. Make sure you get lots of profession critic and advice to be certain. Definitely get a full frame, D3100 may be good, but your customer will want the best. I recommend...

You are right, your friend misunderstood.

    1st try on Zoom Shoot

Yes, exactly that. Handheld, no tripod, zoom smoothly while pressing shutter. Works well when you want to isolate the focus point from a crowd of ppl/objects also.

What do you do when it rains/drizzle?

I will continue shooting, as long as i dont get drench. My D90 has been fully wet a few times and no problem there. I will hide it if it is raining heavily though, even weather proof is not same as water proof.

A model posed nicely for me to shoot

Exposure has cloudy feel, can tweak brighter a bit. Composition wise, maybe can crop less and try, because bird is complete red, seems to come on a little too strong. Use bg as contrast, give an even border. Colours are not over saturated, brighter/contrast increase in fact should improve the...

    1st try on Zoom Shoot

I think zoom effect should have this kind of look, http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4120/4737392375_979d58d210_b_d.jpg Center in focus, yet gradual and not excessive, so need to control your shutter. I know the crane is small and bg not nice, but just get the idea of the effect.

    Which setting determines lifelike?

I would say is the correct exposure and the DOF. With the right exposure, colour saturation and tone gives the correct atmosphere. With right DOF, you can change the feel from dreamy to lifelike to over realistic. Even with bad shadows, wrong white balance and blur photos, lifelike photos are...

    Bottle Tree

I see that HDR, long exposure and sunset/sunrise is strongly favoured recommended, but these are not the normal shot any of us take most of the time. The best shots are usually what we come across unplanned, like a memorable scene, actions, etc. Keep using the camera and it will become like an...

I wouldnt do a vignetting, but you should definitely play around. Good thing about lightroom is you can save the settings of your processing. so have many saves and see which one is the best.

    Bottle Tree

I would say this is a typical photo taken to remember the place. There is no point of interest to make it special but doesnt mean we shldnt take such shots. Your washout look is due to the bright sun, if you do not want to do PP, having less of the sky in the photo may help. The typical...

I think the composition is acceptable, bird's eye and top 1/3, claw at bottom 1/3, key objects that impact the idea of captivity. DOF is enough. Problem here is your PP. It ruined the DOF and walls, etc.... from out of camera, first ensure the full tonal range is there, then try increasing...
