    my severely under utilised lens

Use it when you expect to be shooting in low light situations, e.g. indoors where flash is not allowed, night street photography, isolation of subject and when you need to travel light.

    Typical Lens Question...

Hang on to your 55-200. Use that for your outdoor and travels photography. Get a 35mm f/1.8G for your indoor low light situations. You don't really need a zoom for indoors. If you like to go wider, any of these; 20mm f/2.8, 24mm f/2.8 or 28mm f/2.8 are all below $1.2k. It is light and can double...

    Soft underwater casing

You can buy from this on-line store in Singapore. http://ddelectronics.com.sg/products/Dicapac-WPS10-SLR-Waterproof-Bag.html Need to be aware of some disadvantages of this casing: 1. The front plastic cover degrades the image quality substantially. 2. Casing is only suitable for less...

If you are not particular about using used equipment, you can get a used D80 or D90 from the buy and sell section.

    SLR into DSLR?

Yes, your lenses can be used on Nikon's DSLRs. Notice your lenses are not AFS types. This means you lose autofocus with the entry level DSLRSs which do not have a motor to drive the lens. Only the higher end models D300, D700, D3, etc allow autofocus on such lenses.

    Poor Night Shoot Photos

Hi TS, for a more dramatic night shot, try to take the picture when there is still some light in the sky. You will get balanced lighting of the sky and surrounding area instead of lighted building and totally dark sky.

Nikon tripod vs Fancier FT-6662A Professional Tripod

I have the Fancier FT-6662. Have not tested it in the field yet. Tried it with my D700 and 24-70 f/2.8 lens at home. Whole setup is about 2+ kg and the tripod and ballhead held up pretty well. Took test shots at 30 sec shutter speed and did not detect any camera shake. Only problem I...

Newbie question - when to use mamual mode

I shoot manual mode when I want to control both DOF and freezing of moving subject, e.g. objects swaying in the wind. If there is insufficient light, the auto-ISO can be activated to let camera set the right ISO.

    70-300mm Lense on D90

I have both the 70-300G and 70-300 VR versions. The 70-300G is a crappy low-end consumer lens. IQ is only acceptable from f/8 and above and below 200mm focal length. Need tripod, steady hands or at least 1/500 shutter speed hand-held at full zoom to get sharp pictures. The 70-300 VR is a...

Yes, you are right. Proper term is the angle of view of both D700 and D90 is same with DX lens. D90 will have higher resolution so you can print a bigger size picture with it.
