IMHO, 85MM is a bit tight for indoor shots especially on a cropped body if you're staying in a HBD flat. I'm using 50D and i do own both the 85F1.8 and 50F1.4. For me, at home will be 50MM on the camera and out of the house, 85MM on the camera.:)

AI Servo AF: used for moving subjects and focuses continuously
AI Focus AF: used for unpredictable motion; Focus as ONE shot,
but swithces to AI Servo AF if the subject moves and focus continously on the moving subject.
One Shot AF: still subjects and snapshots.

I dont own a 5d w 16-35mm, but i do own a 50d w 10-22. I dont really notice any vignetting problem with this B+W slim cpl when it's attach to my 10-22 and shooting at 10mm. Kenko Pro 1 CPL and hoya comes from the same OEM i believe. Both shared the same spec from each respective web site.
Later when you find out that 105mm is not long enough for you? Upgrade again? Just go for the 18-200 lah. Personally, i will drop the 17-85mm, this lens performs so so only.
