i couldn't find any 3rd party lens in this price range that can offer very comparable focal length and peformance comparable to D70S or D80 kit lens

this one cost $620, much more expensive than D70S kit lens, even though performance is comparable.

I am looking for a replacement for my 400D kit lens, probably a len (any manufactors) that is comparable to nikon D70S or D80 kit lens in terms of focal range, price and performance? is this available or am i just dreaming?
