I will eventually get the 12-35mm f/2.8 when I have the budget. It is after all the "industry standard" pro zoom (i.e. 24-70mm f/2.8) that every decent lens manufacturer makes, and it is supremely convenient for travelling. For now, though, I am sticking with the kit 12-50mm f/whatever and my...
The point of a holiday is the holiday. Don't get too caught up with taking photographs. Bring a convenient setup, e.g. EM-5 + 12-50 and call it a day. If you really have to, put a fast prime in the bag for low light situations.
Unless this is a photography trip, then bring everything. ;p
My first "real" camera bag was a Crumpler 5 Million Dollar Home. It was fine for my 2-lens DSLR setup but nothing else. That was when I learnt that the bag must be able to contain other essential travel items as well. So I sold it and bought a Billingham Hadley Pro which gave me a little more...
Basically yes. I came from Canon 60D and honestly the E-M5's tracking AF leaves much to be desired. I sometimes resort to pre-focusing or hyper focal distance methods.
I spent 3 weeks in FR/IT in May/June this year, with my E-M5, 12-50mm kit lens and 25mm f/1.4. Wife was using Canon S95. I suppose my experience will give you some idea.
I found the 12-50mm a mixed bag. It has a very useful range and is weather-sealed, but the f/3.5-6.3 max aperture was really...
It is a good thing for the m4/3 ecosystem that Panasonic hits on the high-tech / multimedia / video crowd with the GH-3 while Olympus was goes after the retro / still crowd with the E-M5. Different strokes for different folks; the two manufacturers don't compete directly with each other at the...
Both Panasonic and Olympus have been hyping on their "fastest in the world" AF system like teenagers with inferiority complex. Why do I say that? One of the main concerns about mirrorless systems (vs. DSLR) is the AF system. CDAF is associated with slowness because of its use in PnS cameras and...
Cue the sarcasm banner (ala Big Bang Theory) please! LOL!
I pre-ordered the E-M5 and paid $1,700+ as an early adopter, although I sold the free MMF-3 to recoup part of the cost. I even splurged on a 25mm f/1.4 lens. I'm so glad I took the plunge! The E-M5 was the best camera I could bring to my...
Any plans to let it go? ;)
I thought so previously, until I started comparing shots from my E-M5 + 12-50 with those from my previous 60D + 15-85. There is a significant difference; enough for me to wish I splurged on the 12mm f/2.
My camera is a tool, not a fashion accessory. I wouldn't fork out a lot of money just to get the lens in black. Plus the silver lens on black E-M5 doesn't look half bad.
I bet Olympus will pull the same "limited edition" trick for its other primes, i.e. 45/1.8, 75/1.8 and recently announced 17/1.8.
Sorry guys, something cropped up just as I was about to leave home. I don't think I can make it to the photowalk anymore. Hope to join you guys next time!
I'm a first-timer, so I have to ask the noobie question: how do I recognise the group? Will it be just a bunch of people playing m4/3 cameras and lenses?
