    AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR

Save your bucks and go for f/2.8 lens, it helps you more in low-light condition compared to VR. Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 will be the best but you can also go for cheaper option, Tammy 17-50mm f/2.8. Just my 2cents! :)

    18-135mm vs 55-200mm VR

If you got the bucks, I would recommend Nikkor 18-200mm VR or Sigma 18-200mm OS. If not, I would go for Nikkor 55-200mmVR, at longer range, VR really reduce hand shake a lot, provided you still have the kit lens, 18-55mm. If you already sold your kit lens, then 18-135mm is the one to get. Just...

Newbie: D40 user. Which wide angle lens would you recommend?

If you are using Nikon D40, obviously you only got two choices that can AF with it, its either Sigma HSM or Nikkor AF-S, both Tamron and Tokina lenses cant AF with Nikon D40. So, if you wan wide-angle, I would recommend Sigma 10-20mm HSM, 2mm wider compared to 12-24mm really makes a different...

    Nikon...for the right reasons?

D40X with 18-200mm is ok, but with 17-50 (f2.8)? That's a Tamron lens and D40X cant auto focus with any of Tamron or Tokina lenses so far. Or perhaps you are refering to the Gold Ring lens, Nikkor 17-55mm? If you want the range of 18-200mm, there's a third option for you to consider. The Sony...

    50mm f1.4 vs 85mm f1.8

I wish I could, but I have no one to borrow those lens from to carry out the test. Maybe others who may have both lens can show us some pics for spotting the differences. :D

    50mm f1.4 vs 85mm f1.8

f/1.8 or f/1.4, everyone have their own preferance. But the thing I dun understand is will we be using f1.4 that often? Dun we usually stops down to f/2.8 or f/4 for sharper images? :dunno: If this is the case, then is f/1.4 so critical to have?

    50mm f1.4 vs 85mm f1.8

For budget wise, just get the 85mm f/1.8 and 50mm f1.8, you'll be able to snap great shots as well. It'll saved you a whole lot from getting both f/1.4 lens. :)

Which prime lens do you own?

    I wan to add in my prime lens list as well. Nikkor AF-D 35mm f/2 Nikkor AF-D 50mm f1.8 Nikkor AF-D 85mm f1.8 Nikkor Ai-S 200mm f/4 ;)

    Lens Decision

The minimum focus distance for Nikkor 105mm VR is 0.3m where else for Sigma 150mm is 0.38m. :)

    Lens Decision

Sigma 150 is a nono for potrait shots. Your distance will be too far from the model and people usually dun get comfortable with a large long lens pointing at them. It will turn out making your model feeling tense. So, you'll be force in using the lens for macro only.

    Next Lens.

My opinion is stick to your kit lens longer until you find out which kind of photographing that you prefer. Then only you should decide which lens to get. Dun just go buying lens because you heard that its good. A lot of great lens out there which obviously a never-ending list. Different people...

    Enquires =)

If camera is allowed, then your distance from the stage will be your consideration factor. If you are far from the stage, then obviously longer reach lens will be needed like 80-200 f/2.8 or 70-200 f2.8 VR. But these two lens will be quite heavy (more than 1kg each) and you'll probably get tired...

    Lens Decision

My opinion is to get the Nikkor 105 VR. It's a great lens for macro and also for potrait as well. The VR will give you about 4 f-stops and it does helps a lot when shooting hand-held. :) Since you already have 18-55 and 55-200 lens, so getting the 18-200 will duplicate the whole range and...

Need advice on a good walk about lens

Yes, Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 is a great lens and its cheap too. :) You'll have all the light you need having a big aperture and the focal length is also just nice for candid shots. If you need a wider shot, just back up a few steps. Having a light weight lens is better than lugging a heavy cannon on...
