i think i'll bring the monopod but i'll use it when i'm tired of the weight of the lens. hahaha, last year i used a 55-200 lens and the aperture was at 5.6. had to push the iso up to 1600 and set the shutter speed at 1/250. apparently the pictures were underexposed.

you can go to the custom settings menu and look for the AE/AF lock button setting and selecting AF ON from there. hope this helps. it works for both the d90 and d60 so the d5000 should be the same.
