If you really rarely use it, might as well sell it. If every six month you need similar lens to capture the moment of an event, just rent one. :D Unless you can find other use for it that suits your photography style that is, which is always the better choice.

It's not a must. It's always a matter of whether you need it or not. It's Canon's cheapest prime lens (cheapest lens for that fact). And the aperture is quite big, thus allowing some additional creativity to be thrown into the photos. The question is; Why do you want to buy it? :D

Cheaper to manufacture You don't have to manufacture glass that provide the whole coverage of a full-framed sensor. That's why EF-S lenses that are used on full-framed sensor have vignetting issue
