Thinking of either of these 2 for my telephoto as well. Not much major differences between the 2 so most likely I'll play safe and go with the nikkor.

Yes. Nikkor AF-S lens will be able to focus on this camera.

Should I get a Nikon DSLR or just a semi pro?

85mm on a crop is really tight.. esp indoors. will have to stand really far to get the dog's shot.

Will you buy a AFS 70-200m f4 VR if Nikon launch one?

70-200 f4... that is what nikon is lacking.. If this lens really come out (albeit with a good pricing), i will be hard-choiced to choose between the 70-300 and this. :bsmilie:

This is 1 good shot.. Wat were the settings?? Should be quite high iso for that fast shutter speed rite?

Dont think so much about it le. If it works normally, then no problem liaoz. Go out & enjoy taking photos. Dont let 53 shutter count deter u from the joys of photography.

    Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 or Nikon 17-55mm f2.8?

I managed to get it as a grey set during a sale.. Was alot cheaper than current prices..

    Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 or Nikon 17-55mm f2.8?

This was a quick shot i took under a rather low light situation (dont mind my composition ;p) 1/5s, ISO 1600, F2.8 .

    Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 or Nikon 17-55mm f2.8?

They serve very different purposes. My tammy is my general walkaround lens. But a prime lens makes the camera alot ligher for longer walkarounds, or when i need IQ or more of the f1.8.

U can ignore that protruding thing on the tripod as the D5100 has no use for that. Did u ensure that u screwed the camera to the tripod securely?? (the screw goes into the 'hole' of the camera, not that protuding thing. Screw till u cant screw in anymore) I havent had the freebie tripod...

Welcome to the family! :) Dont worry about the weight. I had that feeling too when i got the D7k as my 1st DSLR. Now after I'm accustomed to the weight, it feels perfectly normal. Plus i got a batt grip to balance too.

    Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 or Nikon 17-55mm f2.8?

the Tamron 17-50 is a very good lens, just that the focus ring moves during AF & the focusing is realllyyy loud. (as compared to AF-S lens) U dont have to really replace the 35/1.8 with the tamron.. Infact I'm considering getting a 35/1.8 to complement my tammy myself as well.

Used the Nikkor 18-200 and it was great. Loved it when i was travelling.

Better spend that 20+ bucks to find NSC to clean it than risk damaging the sensor urself. (unless u gonna upgrade veryyy soon :bsmilie:)

Just a question. Wouldnt the electro-static on the sensor (when the camera is on) attract more dust onto the sensor when it is exposed on bulb mode w/ lens unmounted?
