wondering if it's time to dump the Sigma 30/f1.4

no lah... haven't gone to full frame yet, so will need a 35mm range in the meantime.

wondering if it's time to dump the Sigma 30/f1.4

yup, I realize that too. actually, i think i might prefer the 35mm range (and use "foot-zoom" to make up for the difference in focal length) for situations where I only carry 1 lens. There's also the option of getting an extra 50/1.8, or I may keep the 550D if the resale price is too low. I...

wondering if it's time to dump the Sigma 30/f1.4

thanks, for the inputs. yup, the Sigma is a little more tempting than the Canon. You're right, it's a little heavy, at 665g, about the same as my 17-55, but lighter than my telephoto. Hmmm, maybe I'll wait for the USB dock to launch before buying. sorry, maybe my first sentence is...

wondering if it's time to dump the Sigma 30/f1.4

I've hardly used my Sigma 30/f1.4 for long--only about half a year, and now I'm wondering whether it's time to dump it (it's a great lens to supplement my current EF-S 17-55/2.8). it seems to be a newer model with no back-focus/front-focus issues; the previous Sigma 30/f1.4 with severe front...

Poll: Which Full frame camera will you buy?

probably 6D or 5D2 for me, depending on reviews.

    Canon 6D

Actually, I believe there are opportunities that are much nearer: e.g. Mt. Kinabalu, Mt Bromo, etc. The lighter weight of the 6D is going to help on the hike. Having GPS is a nice plus (if you ever want to go back again, or you want to help a friend, you can give them the GPS coordinates)...

    Canon 6D

In my experience, setting the focus ring to infinity mark (or just slightly before it) usually works for f/2.8. At f/1.4, the depth of field is considerably thinner, so it's a bit more difficult. Even when setting to infinity mark, the picture may sometimes look a bit out-of-focus. Am not...

    Canon 6D

Yup, -3 EV is good for focusing in moonlight. Usually my 550D can't do it (except for the rare occasion when there's a distant light in the horizon. apparently focusing at the moon doesn't work very well).

    Canon 6D

Thanks for the article. I think 6D is the next step for me. Just the right specs for travel photographers (-3EV autofocus, wifi connectivity, GPS). Good durability (at the expense of pop-up flash and articulating screen) is another plus for travelers. And from Canon's point of view, the 6D does...
