Agree with you, people whom i know that use a dslr but got zero photography knowledge are all using Canon. And they only choose between Nikon and Canon (thats the only two brand they heard of) when they buy their dslr, and they will give 'what?!' or 'are you a caveman?' face when they hear...

If u buy a 35f1.8, u will sell the 50f1.8. 35mm is generally more useful than 50mm on APSC.

if they are mediocre, they will be out of business, which should be ur least concern i have friend who think camera phone is enough for his photography needs when travelling i have friends who use dslr like a pns their needs are fulfilled and are happy so am i suppose to say they are wrong...

the key word here is diversity, all sorts of people will buy cameras and all sorts of people will surf forum dun expect everybody that come into this forum to be knowledgeable in photography some may be member since x years but only log in once in a blue moon, some may not know how to google...
