Honestly speaking, if you have to ask those questions, you shouldn't buy a DSLR since you wouldn't know what to do with it. Go get one of those prosumer models with auto exposure or shutter modes, and if you find that you like taking pictures in those modes instead of the preprogrammed modes...

No. those are the opposite. They are actually 'wide angle' fresnel lenses so you can see a wider view. What you want is the converging 'zoom' ones which you can get at any bookshop. Its usually used for reading maps and books as they can be packed flat.
