May I add the Rikenon I speak of has an P program mode at the end of its Aperture selections, which I assume confirms the auto aperture control. But I am keen to select the aperture, with the camera deciding shutter speed.

I got the 17-50 Tamron for my A65. The constant f/2.8 aperture is great, and overall the sharpness is excellent. I'm a firm believer technique and lens quality run hand in hand.
