    philips 240pw9eb lcd monitor

Hi Razzd and others, I've been looking for a 24" IPS/VA panel in Manila for a long time and can't find any. Can you please post the stores in SG where the Philips 240PW9EB is available? I've a sister living there and I'm thinking of asking her to buy it and ship it for me. Store websites will...

Moon with the Sigmonster + 2x TC

Thanks, guys....:) I used my regular birding support (Manfrotto 475B tripod + 3421 gimbal head), and this is a single exposure (1/40 sec with 1600 mm is still fast enough to freeze the moon). Romy

Moon with the Sigmonster + 2x TC

Here's sharing how the moon looked over Manila last night, taken with the Sigmonster + 2x TC (1600 mm) and rotated 180 degrees....:) Reduced pic: Link to the full size photo here. And a closer view - 100% crop: Regards, Romy

    Manila Moon

Most astro-shooters will say that one needs a shutter speed of at least 1/30 to 1/50 sec to freeze the moon's motion as it "speeds" across the frame. Of course, faster SS is better. At moonshots, IMHO, the challenge is to find the optimum balance among longest reach (prone to shake), fast SS...

    Manila Moon

Thanks, jc1. kelccm, the sweet aperture value of the combo with stacked TCs is f/25. If I shot at ISO 100, my shutter speed would've been 1/13 sec for proper exposure, which is way, way too slow. I need at least 1/30 sec to freeze the motion of the moon. I used 1/100 sec to minimize shake...

    Manila Moon

Here's sharing a recent moonshot captured through Manila's polluted skies....:) The pic is 330K so I'm posting a link - 20D + Sigmonster (Sigma 300-800 DG) + stacked Sigma 2x and 1.4x TCs, 2263 mm focal length: http://www.pbase.com/liquidstone/image/54510394/original Regards, Romy

    Long exposure/MLU at birds

The Indigo-Banded Kingfisher (Alcedo cyanopecta) is an uncommon and difficult to find Philippine endemic. It inhabits mountain streams, where light is often very low. When I finally got close to a male bird at Quezon Province recently, I avoided using flash to preserve the bird colors. It was...

    Whiskered Treeswift

Got this little fellow (Hemiprocne comata) high up the tree tops at Subic rainforest last weekend. Both were taken with the 350D + Sigmonster (Sigma 300-800 DG) at 800 mm, f/11, manual exposure . 1/250 sec, ISO 200 1/800 sec, ISO 400 Regards, Romy

    400 5.6L birds

I managed to get very near this little bird, possibly as close as 13 to 15 feet. It's quite easy to hand hold when the flash supplies most of the light, as the brief burst of light acts as a very fast shutter....:)

    Long Tailed Shrike

The last step in my workflow is application of final USM in the resized image. This is what I do to minimize haloes in using USM (PS CS). 1. Apply USM to taste, a bit more aggressive if for web posting, as some sites like PBase soften the pic a bit after uploading. 2. Select the whole pic...

    Oriental Pratincole (breeding plumage)

Got this Glaerola maldivarum last March, just before they left our islands to breed in the north. A lot of them should be back by now, but less colorful in their non-breeding plumage. 20D + 400 5.6L + Tamron 1.4x TC, 560 mm, 1/1600 sec, f/9, ISO 400 Regards, Romy
