So which camera did you buy? Like what a previous post stated, compact cameras usually will have issues focusing fast enough for moving kids.....I end up with high ISOs or using the in-built flash or even the video function (which can be nice for following kids around).

Further to the above comments on Ricoh, its GR Digital IV is just out. Good for street photography. But uses just the usual PnS sensor size & focal length is FIXED. The SNAP function is a snap! It got 1:1 format too.
Based on some web previews, the GRDIII has :

heavier,
longer protrusion of lens,
not compatible with GRDII's accessories (except for GV-1 & 2)
