For me I suggest getting a dslr only if you are truly interest in photography. by that does not mean holding a dslr and using auto mode. if you are into just taking pictures for fun, a compact camera is the best choice. light + easy to use. Some compact can even beon manual mode which sums it up...

I think its quite save to get a 2nd hand camera which is the 2nd newest on the line because there is lots of ppl getting cameras for less than a year because they would "change" the moment a new model comes out. look out for snatches on the lense if u are getting as well.

I hope the 5Dmk3 comes out soon. and all the mk2 users will sell Their loved mk2 cheap!
