    the standard kit lens would be 18-55 or 18-105 for a D90. and I know there are certain compacts which have very decent lens on them, like the canon s90 or lumix lx3. That being said, the kit lens is still decent for everything.

    100% coverage may not be necessary for casual shooters. A bigger viewfinder would be more practical imo.
