If need to choose ONLY one then it is 18-55mm loh. You will probably take foto in a restaurant, cafe, shopping centre, museum, temple, street, scenery (with or without you). Less frequent need of longer focal length.

For me, for walkabout lens, street and candid photos, birthday party, casual events, ie "I need or may need to take photos but not a very serious one", I use zoom lens. For 'photo day', taking portrait of a friend, landscape, etc, then i bring my prime gear. You should know if your photo day is...

dont put a cheap glass in front of ur lens. at least get the pro version of the hoya. :)

why get this lens? the old one is cheaper and more versatile. 12-24mm f/4. although this new lens is bright f2.8, i think i wont be using 2.8. I will use wide angle lens for landscape scenery, or indoor group fotos, which i wont use 2.8 for the depth. for wide angle lens, any experts there that...

I am expecting a much smaller, shorter and lighter 70-200mm since Nikon has a new alien technology to make it happen? ;p
