If you look at the website your can see that both lenses have a different lens construction. The new lens (with close-up capability) has 18 Elements in 15 Groups and the previous model has 17 Elements in 14 Groups. Therefore at this moment in time, as it is a new lens, we can't say anything...

I bought the KM one for 570 incl GST in a shop at SL. (after some bargaining). Not many shops have the lens. I am very happy with the lens. Happy, means to me that it is giving me sharp pictures and nice colors all the way. I can't comment about the difference with the Tamron.
