One way you may want to try is to take a shot with the lens cap on. You should get a black picture (naturally). Look all around, if you have a dead pixel, you'll probably see it in either green or white as a dot. Just my 2 satang's worth...

If I am not mistaken, MRC and HMC are the proprietary names for the Anti-Reflective coating treatment that is on the glass of the filter. HMC stands for Hoya Multi-Coated. For more understanding of this AR or MC coat, look at the lens of your S9500, you'll find that instead of just clear glass...

Unfortunately, this is the letdown of the S9500. It does not support TTL in anyway. If you look at the hotshoe for the external flash, it only has a single contact (the one that triggers the flash) without any other contacts, TTL is not possible. Just my 2 satang's worth...
