impossible.. the 18-200 is superior in sharpness and contrast to the 18-70 anytime. I have used many copies in my course of work, unless you talk about exceptional cases of lemons. However the 18-200 suffers from distortion at 18mm, due to it being such a wide focal length range.

depends on what we are really talking about here.. built wise the 18-70 is definitely better, with the distance scale window, making it similar to the 18-200vr and slightly similar to the higher class trinity lens. however the 18-135 gives an extra 70-135mm range, which is 105 to 203mm...
