Macro "How To" with a PnS: Questions

Hi, I've been bumping into spiders often lately and I'd like to get some tips from you gurus on how to get shots of them. What I have is a point and shoot camera and I'd like to know whether anyone has been successful taking macros out in the field with a Pns. How do you take successful macros...

    Angel watching over me

Hi. Two photos I took of angel statues during a walking trail of the Singapore Biennale. These were taken at St. Peter and Paul's Church in town. Appreciate any comments.

    Startrail pix

This looks like a southern startrail and is definitely not taken in Singapore. The colours look unnatural, so it seems like quite some processing was involved. The exposure is 2 hours - if you measure the stars they travel about 30 degrees. A 12 hour startrails looks something like this...

    Milky Way with a tripod

Hi Ngebor, If you are interested in a step-by-step guide in using IRIS, maybe I can try to write a simple one. Although there are a lot of other functions that are for astroimage processing the only ones that you need to know are registration and stacking, so it might be possible to follow the...

    The Moon

Hi Weixing, I don't think there's a need to stack moon shots as a bit of USM will bring out a lot of details already. I find that that level of sharpness looks very unnatural to me. Just me 2 cents. :) chris

    The Moon

Here's my humble contribution. Shot with a CanonIxus on full-auto through the eyepiece of a telescope. Was slightly overexposed so did some levels adjustment and unsharp masking in PS.

    Milky Way with a tripod

Here's an example of a shot taken in Singapore. Single shot. Canon Ixus 15s ISO 400. This was taken at East Coast Park beach just beside the Changi Safra. Notice that it is much brighter, noisy, and has an ugly reddish tinge due to the light from Singapore's street lamps. This was a particular...

    Milky Way with a tripod

Hi! Some of you are curious as to how such shots can be done, and what a shot from Singapore might look like. Here are some explanations and examples: This is a 15 sec shot of the southern cross, taken under dark skies in Mersing. Camera: Canon Ixus Exposure: 15s ISO: 400 Very noisy. DSLR...

    Milky Way with a tripod

Hi. The settings for the milky picture were 30 secs at ISO 1600. I set to the widest field and maximum apeture. Sorry, don't know about the lens, F-stop, etc. I'm new to this. 4 frames added together for a total of 120sec exposure.

    Southern Stars

Thanks for the suggestion. Here's the photo after I redid the noise reduction with NEAT: That is the southern cross just right of center.

    Star photography

Simple. Stars are white. Noise is red or green and everything else. ;)

    Milky Way with a tripod

Hi everyone, Sorry that I have no time to craft a more detailed explanation, but for the time being, I'm sure these websites will be very informative: Virtual Equatorial Imaging: http://astrosurf.com/vdesnoux/virtualeq/virtualeq.htm Dan Heller's Tutorial Series: Photographing Star Trails...

    Southern Stars

Hi. Location for this shot was Mersing, Malaysia, but there are many other dark places along the East Coast of Malaysia. For example, P. Aur where many people go diving is very dark.
