If you are taking a lot of still shots indoor, the 16-35 is better for hand held shot as the vr works at least 2 stops. I used it extensively in my last travel.

When I had the T17-50, it does have a somewhat stiff zoom so it should alright. Your kit lens probably has image stabilisation therefore it can take still images at a lower shutter speed. f2.8 is not really that bright for indoors so without image stabilisation, your pictures may turn...
