For indoor portraits, I'd go for the 50mm unless your house is roomy enough to allow you to stand far back with a 85mm. The 50mm is a BEAUTIFUL piece of glass for its price. It will give you nice head shots on a crop camera and the bouquet esp by the window/bright backgrounds is AWESOME.
