I should say that Brand is very subjective as most of the Hi-end Dslrs are equally good in their own field rather you should look into the type of lenses needed.

It really depends on your Budget and ... how often do you need to shoot in lo-lite condition.

I would recommend that you go for the Panasonic Lumix series. As for the Prosumer, FZ30 would be a better choice even though this nodel has been around for quite some time already. It's definitely vallue for money.

I believe you can "shoot" at manual mode, right? The reason why it does not autofocus is because it is not an AF lens. You need not load in the film inorder to test the camera.

Hee Hee, that's a good and valid question. Anyway, if battery is not the issue, then set your camera to manual mode.

Not really, as you can always set your shutter speed to 250 whenever using telephoto lenses. Of course, you sort of sacrifice the depth of field when need to make use of smaller f-stop.
