Hi folks! It's been some years since I last posted on this forum. Haven't had time for much photography, but trying to get back into it.

So a rather niche question: anyone has any experience with the old SB-30 Speedlights using rechargeable CR123A batteries? Usually, these are 3.7V nominal and go up to about 4.2V freshly charged. Will it fry the circuits?

Thanks guys!

And I thought my SB800 is old.

I am not a electrical expert. I tested my AA cells and got different voltage. I think it would work fine on your flash as I believed 0.5V will not fry the circuits.

Thanks, Madmax! Haha! I got SB800 too. :p

Actually, my concern was not the nominal voltage at 3.6V. Rather, the full fresh charge voltage of 4.2V is more my concern.

Truth be told, I tested with a few pops of the flash and it seems to work, but I'm not sure in the long run will it be bad for the circuits.
