Was contemplating on getting a R-D1s as a stop-gap before a better spec'ed Digital-M comes out, however, was told by a dealer to hold out for a digital Ikon instead... Is there such a beast in the making? Any information or even rumour out there?

harrr... ooo nia boh? digital ikon?

either way, expect it to cost a BOMB!!!

I think so, since their ZM lenses are designed for digital. As for price ... bo bian

BTW, anyone "arh" with ProPhoto? Maybe can squeeze something out of them ;)

The next digital body coming out is the Leica M8, supposedly due in October. US dealers already taking orders. Specs are somewhat similar to the R-D1s but the price is about US$5000 iirc. The digital Ikon has been talked about for a while but is vaporware as of now, and I think for quite a while. Don't know where your dealer got his info from but it's not very accurate.

IMO, a used R-D1 would be a better buy. A simple firmware upgrade will miraculously transform it into a R-D1s. The upgrades are purely software based.

Terence, thanks for the info. Should that be the case, I would stick to plan A. I'll probably pick up a R-D1 once I get a confirmation on the spectral sensitivity of its sensor.
