Hi guys,

newbie here

1) Just wanna know if the T5 zoom is any good, its the one with the "waist level finder" right ?

2) Also How are the T5's optics compared to the T4

3) The T4 also has the "waist level finder" right ?

4) Where can I get the above and how much are they ? Heard they are stoping production of cameras is this ture ?

Thanks in advance guys !

Hi
Brett

T4 is not made anymore. It was without waist level finder.
If I am not mistaken, there seemed to be a transition period when T4 "Super" was made with a waist level finder.
Then T5 was made. All T5 have waist level finder.
I think both have Carl Zeiss lens 35mm f3.5 T* Tessar.
That means 4 elements.

Have not tried enlarging the pic from T5.
I have enlarged a negative from the T4. The area enlarged was about 1/3 of the negative area. I enlarged that 1/3 area to super 8R size. (Pretty girl)
The print was very sharp. Very colourful. Surprised me.

They were a good deal at the price they were sold.

If you are willing to spend a bit more, the Contax T2 is terrific. It has a Sonnar 38mmfF2.8 lens. I think of it as a mini compact AF Hasselblad.
I ever saw a poster size enlargement from the T2 by a Contax Club past president.
Is that 32inch by 40 inch?

Now their new model is T3. It must be excellent.

The Olympus Mju2 with the 35mm f2.8 lens was also a very good AFcompact.
Don't worry if the label says "Made in China". So what? At that price, don't complain. Consider also the limited edition Oly Mju V with metal body. Good lens.

You will notice now, most reknown compacts have fixed lenses and not zoom lenses.

Hey thanks for ur input !

So the T4/5 with the zoom lens is not as good in terms of sharpness ? it does offer a good range 28-70 if i am not mistaken.

yoz brudder, you getting one for work ahh?

Hi, Brett

Generally zooms are not as biting as fixed lenses.
But with Carl Zeiss, you never know.
Ya it is a 28-70 I think.
At 70mm, the aperture may be quite dim. It is definitely not f2.8 at 70mm.
I have tried this at Ruby Photo. But did not buy.
I guess it is OK.

But if you want something that shocks your friends (and yourself) when you enlarge the photos, then suggest you go for the fixed lens compacts.

The old Rollei 35 SE or 35S with the Sonnar HFT lens is terrific too.
But you have to guesstimate the focus and that sometimes gives out of focus pics. A bit fussy to handle. Their hotshoe is upside down!!

you kidding me ~? but then again u never know ! hehehe ~

Getting it more for fun la, I cannot resist these toys !!!!!! How r u any ways ~

Hi Brett

That is reasonable.
Imagine you buy the lens (hey, it's a CZ T* coating) and the camera body is free. Please let me know the results. Enlarge you fave pic with it to 16in by 20 in. If excellent results, I will rush out to grab one.

Since you travel, any place in SEA that we can get cheap Contax stuff?
Let us know if you got any "LOBANG". If you are foreigner, that is local vernacular for : insider connections for good deals.

$205 is a very good price for the T Zoom (or T5 Zoom). I got mine for $300+++ when it was first launched.

FwaH ! Ok Ok I'll get one later thank god mustafa is 24hours lol !

Mpenza care to share ur "review" on the cam ?

I'll be going to thailand end of the month might get one to try it out there ~ keep u guys informed !

it's a good cam but rather slow at the tele end (can't remember the aperture). pics taken were sharp and contrasty. the fixed lens T4 or T5 are probably slightly better though in the optics as could be expected.

Thanks I'll go shopping for one today !

Brett, saw this thread after posting my T4 for sale. Check this out: http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=121839. I have both the T4 and T5 super, long story. ;) But I'm selling the T4 as it's underutilised and I now have a Konica Hexar (if you can find one, grab it!) I've also read that the zoom version is not as sharp. I believe Konota may have one on sale at less than $200, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me. Perhaps you can call and ask? :)

good price for the T4 :) do u mean the Hexar going for less than $200???

No, I meant the T4 zoom. :)
