hi i was wondering if someone would be able and is kind enough to give me a comprehensive comparison between the 2 electros? i understand that the gsn was very popular, and the mg-1 is a more automatic, but i do not know the full details of the similarities and differences between both models.

help, please?

You might want to check out this website, http://www.yashica-guy.com/index.html. Comprehensive guide to the Yashina RFs. ;)

ah ok thanks! :]

one more question tho, which i couldnt find answered on the webpage. the yashica gsn features f1.7 lens, while the mg1 features f2.8 lens. will it mean that the smallest aperture is f2.8? wont that mean my pictures will be darker/lighter (dunno which is which!)??

the 2.8 will be darker than the 1.7

So buying a GSN is more worth it then buying MG-1?

i think at the end of the day it would come down to your own preferences. the difference i'm most aware of so far is the f2.8 lens though. dunno much to say which is better!

but yeh. preference. :]

Your photo will be darker provided the lighting does not change, shutter speed does not change and iso of the film does not change.

but you can always compensate using slower shutter speed or using higher iso film. f1.7 to f2.8 is about 1 1/3 stop. just compensate according and you will get the same "bright" photos.

i suggest you read up more books about exposure.

just go for the electro gsn. you gain 1 1/3 stop over the the MG-1 with the faster lens.

moreover, gsn looks much cooler than the MG-1. however, if you're thinking of attaching screw-on filters, MG-1 would be great as the light meter is within the lens barrel unlike the gsn which has it above, near the rangefinder mechanism. just one of the many differences between the two.

go read up and research ;)

You do have to consider that the GSN is alot bigger and heavier than the MG-1. I have the GSN, and I can tell you my shoulders get sore if I carry it around all day (12 hours at Disneyland). That being said, I do love the handling of the camera and the pictures that come out. I also got the GX recently, probably similar size to the MG-1. The construction feels cheaper, but it's lighter and I can carry it around all day. You can visit my page in my signature for some sample photos from the GSN (no GX page yet).
