Rare and legendary are words that you will hardly see us using. Afterall, collecting outstanding classic cameras is only a matter of whether you are willing to pay the right to own that particular rare piece. But if it is not a matter of money but rather its a matter of scarcity, that we shall term it rare.
Manufactured around 1950 , this uncommon (Only 12000 pieces were made) 35mm folding coupled rangefinder camera from Voigtlander Germany is fitted with a coated and highly corrected 6-element lens (particularly suitable for use in poor light) Ultron 50mm f/2 lens in a Synchro-Compur shutter. Please note that this is a very high quality pocketable folding rangefinder that will provide excellent images with great sharpness and good contrast.
The Vito III on sale here today is what we termed as relatively rare. Its not a common folding camera that you will see once in a while. This camera did not come to us by chance. We went to it, in a rather arduous manner, not to mention repeatedly, and we are not talking about this part of the continent.
Cosmetics condition warrant a 9 and above easily. In very beautiful outstanding condition. Leatherette is shiny and all intact and paintwork is remarkable. There is no chrome pitting or such.
Viewfinder and rangefinder patch are clear and the patch is bright and precise. No misalignment issues here.
There are no haze and fungus on the lens as well except for some dust. Coating is exceptionally beautiful with a blue cool tone.
Focusing is buttery smooth and shutter speeds including the slow and B mode work fine. Aperture blades open and close nicely. The small bellow is also well built with no light leaks.
Overall, its a camera hard to find in this condition. You can get get a Leica LTM camera anytime at around this price but you may have to wait for a long while before one of these 12000 pieces decides to surface on the market.
