Description:
The FED 5B is a popular soviet rangefinder.

Unlike it's FED 5 predecessor, the FED 5B does not come with a light meter. However, the Sunny-16 rule or the mini exposure can be used to overcome this (http://expomat.tripod.com/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunny_16_rule).

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FED-5B rangefinder camera produced in limited quantities to commemorate the 1980 Olympic Summer Games in Moscow.

Back in 1980, the 22nd Modern Olympic Summer Games were held in Moscow during the height of the Cold War. To promote the glorious event, all camera manufacturers issued one or more com memorative models of their 1979 or 1980 cameras. This "compliancy" was so uniformed and planned at that time, it seemed to indicate that they were commissioned by the Soviet government.

Interestingly enough, The 1980 Moscow Olympics was perhaps most famous for the US-led boycott that saw only 80 out of 147 nations compete, the lowest number since the 1956 Melbourne Games. The boycott was made in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan the year before, one of the many conflicts that took place during the Cold War years. US allies such as Britain and France also condemned the invasion but allowed their athletes to compete nonetheless.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here, a limited edition 1980 Moscow Olympics commemorative version with a classic full leather case and original lens cap is up for grabs. It comes with the popular LTM (Leica Threaded Mount, 39mm), Industrar 61LD, a 55mm, f/2.8 lens. They can be replaced with your favoured leica lenses (39mm thread mounts).

The film advance lever is in tip-top condition, as is the overall outlook of this rangefinder. The lens is free from fungus and scratches. The brown leather case looks very hardy and it lends the vintage look to the FED 5B. The lens cap is also the original one from the FED 5B. The viewfinder is bright and contrasty and the shutter curtain is free from creases and responds at all shutter speeds.

***IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE ABOUT THE FED 5B***
The shutter speed has to be adjusted AFTER the film advance lever has been cocked. This is true for most of the FED's rangefinders, so please take heed when using it.
More information on the FED 5B can be easily obtained online. If need be, drop me a PM and I'll send you the e-manual.

Own an exclusive piece of history now, and take pictures with it as well!

If metering is a concern to you, I have several antique external light meters at competitive prices too. Email me for more details!

The 1980s Moscow Olympics logo should be this picture, and not the above, the above is the viewfinder with the bioptric correction (like DSLRs)

Lens is a 53mm f2.8 Industrar 61 LD lens, not a 55mm as incorrectly mentioned in the caption of the first post.

Apologies!
