Equipment Model: FED-5
Price (S$): 160
Description:
I have once heard someone in CS saying that acquiring a FSU camera is like "tee-gum". I truly agree with him. I further discovered and would like to further add, with the exceptions of a spoilt copy, all vintage cameras each has their own slight deficiencies (as compared to modern cameras), which in turn add up to its own special character. It can take a long time to discover this unique character, though.

My FED 5 got this such character which only I have discover after wasting so many rolls of film. Initially, I even thought this camera is useless! You just need to spent time with it to get to know him better. This is the reason why the lomo movement thrives, for example.

This camera comes with a good condition Industar I-61L/D len (no fungus) with a special lanthane coating. Rest assured, the so-called radioactive coating is safe. The proof is, so far I have use this camera for my street shooting many times, and right up till now all my hair is still intact. I have passed a few times in airports and immigration checkpoints, no radiation siren sounded. The shutter c**king mechanism is taut but not tight, meaning it can last many times of operations till your next CLA. The shutter click is also taut. Toting this camera for a shoot is a special experience; you will invite some curious stares (some friendly though). The camera body handles like what the FSU industrial machinery should: manly and utilitarian. And when you click that shutter click, a loud "Thwat!!" that can be heard from some short distance. It got power! The selenium light metering is fully workable, but although I prefer the sunny 16 rule, which will give you the best exposure (all my shots are using this method)

Initially I thought this is the most ugliest camera I have ever seen. But strangely this Russian aesthethic slowly grows on me. But frankly I still trying very hard to accept the aesthethic of one of his sibling - the FED-11 Atlas.

I am giving up this camera because I have to make way for other camera purchases. Its not about how much camera you own, getting to understand and use with different characteristics of other cameras is what matters to me most. Life is about getting experiences. Having the money to fund is another.

PS: I may post here a few times, if there is no buyer then I will gladly withdraw and keep this camera with me forever.
