The color values are quite superb. While needing the same calibration exercise required for any other studio screen on a regular basis, the surface may become a little more grubby than the usual screen, as some artists tend to just about climb aboard when they are deep in that creative space. Taking Photoshop as an example, every keyboard shortcut and filter preset can be either programmed into the pens DuoSwitch or called up using ExpressKeys and the Touch Strips on either side of the screen. Independent actions can be set to either end of the pen, such as double-click, right-click or any shortcut keys you choose.
You know that surge of inspiration one gets when a passion for creativity is awakened? This unit gives you an excuse to rattle that cage. It has taken less than five minutes from a closed box situation, to connect the Cintiq 21UX. Slaving out of my trusty 15-inch Powerbook G4, I have the 21-inch Cintiq 21UX ready to go. Once the Photoshop menus and palettes have been saved onto the Cintiq21UX screen as a new Workspace, everything is set. Nothing could be simpler.
The unit can be connected to a drive, (Windows XP or Mac OS X), and set to work. The unit itself weighs 8.5kgs without its stand, and sits at 535 x 418 x 48mm. While on the stand, the unit can be locked in any angle, and freely swiveled to any angle. For those artists who want to climb in, the power/DVI cable is long enough to have the unit slide off the stand and place it on your lap if thats your thing. Yes, 8.5kgs is pretty heavy, but it can be done.
