Description:
This is a very sharp telephoto lens from Zeiss, post-war West Germany, made for the Contax rangefinder mount. It is a pretty rare lens compared to the usual Carl Zeiss Jena lenses that you will find being sold. It is not only sharp (as expected of Zeiss lenses) but the images that it produced are colourful and contrasty, thanks to the innovative (red-T, predecessor of T*) Zeiss lens coatings. Bokeh from this lens is also very nice, with 12 diaphragm blades for smooth round bokeh dots at all apertures! As it is a rangefinder lens, its size is pretty small and compact compared with 135mm lenses for SLRs. Together with the short adaptor for mirrorless camera, it will make a discreet and portable combination for walk-abouts and street photography.
This lens has been tested to be fully functional using a 24MP full frame camera. It is in good condition with some minor signs of use and oxidation on the metal body (as is common with chrome lens bodies), but is still shiny for the most parts. Focusing and aperture control rings are both smooth-turning. Glass is clean and clear with no fungus and scratches. Some parts of the coatings of the front and rear glass has a slightly different color of reflection from previous fungus that was cleaned, but coatings are still intact and clear. Contrast and sharpness are still top-notch and you are welcome to review the shots taken with this lens (on a full frame camera) to see the kind of images that it can deliver. Most shots are taken at wide open, with some between F5 to F5.6 on a cloudy day.
