The infamous Olympus 12mm-60mm SWD
Its between this and the 14-54mm, but what attracted me to 12-60mm are:
- Its every lens from 24mm to 120mm: more useful range!
- Its bigger in f-stop than most zooms: at f2.8, I can shoot better in low light using lower ISO
- Its a 5X zoom and close-up lens rolled in one, focusing just 4cm from the front element thru entire zoom range!!! (I actually save money without having to buy another macro lens!)
- Its dust + splash proof: weather seal: I can shoot in a small rain no problem, less worry about fungus too (I wish they made my camera body was made better, like this standard
- Its extremely sharp, even wide open. (After using some L lenses I can vouch to this, this one is on par if not better!!!)
- It allows instant manual focusing on the barrel (I hardly use manual as auto focus is so good)
- Its still slightly cheaper than the C-brand L lenses of the same class (this one is top of the Oly line or called HG/ High Grade)
- Its the only lens I need to shoot/ go anywhere, everywhere without having to miss that shot again.
- Its fast in focusing (the kit lens gratefully retired)
- The front element is non-rotating good for a Polarising filter
- Its ED + SWD: high tech right?! Its actually a very modern lens design: these features in a 5X zoom are not possible years ago
- Its one of the things that makes 4/3 attractive
So once and for all, I put the money down on this piece of lens! Never regret it even though it cost more than the body. Its well cared for, as good as new and now permanently stored in the dry box, its getting no use - it has been 2 months since my nephew hijacked my Oly 520 (+ kit lens, ha! )and Im never getting it back. Good for you, Im now letting this remarkable lens go and you get to keep the wallet thick! But be warned its not anything like the masak plastic kit lens its a serious piece of photo-taking glass.
