It is Yongnuo latest HSS enabled flash unit, just announced in last month. Very much resembling Canons 430EX II but with higher GN53. 500EX has a number of slave options for wireless off camera use, the Canon/Nikon optic wireless system, as well as basic optic slave mode which is triggered by the light from other flash units. That includes S1 and S2 TTL pre-flash suppression mode. More important, it is more compact and light weighted compared with YN568 OR Canon 600RT, good for travel.
